Halloween Party

We had a terrific day in Kindergarten!  Our morning was a regular morning complete with centers and fine motor activities.   After lunch we created a modified Circle Map (that looked like a jack o'lantern) and made a list of everything we know about pumpkins.  Then we made jack o'lantern that included some of the items from our list on them.  These were sent home.  We went to the library today instead of on Wednesday this week.  The Legacy Luncheon is scheduled in the library on Wednesday, so we would not be able to get in.  We will be back to a regular library schedule next week.  We also made pumpkin patterns on black strips of paper.  These were also sent home.  After music, we celebrated Halloween by decorating sugar cookies with frosting and candies.  Thank you to the families that donated materials for our party!

Late start day
Remember that Wednesday is a late start day.  School will start at 11:30 and we will dismiss at 3:40.  We will go to lunch immediately when students arrive.

Canned food drive
Our Student Council is hosting a food drive from now until the middle of December.  The class who brings in the most food wins a pizza party.  If you are interested in donating to the food drive, please send in non-perishable food.  Thank you!

Santa Cops
Santa Cops applications are available.  If you need assistance this holiday season, I have applications available and can send one home.  You can also contact Ms. Figall our counselor and get an application from her.

Classroom needs
Our classroom is in need of Chlorox Wipes and gallon ziplock bags.  It is important to keep Chlorox wipes in the room so we can disinfect the tables regularly.  This helps minimize spreading germs.  The ziplock bags are handy to keep around for a number of reasons.

Here are a few pictures from our day:

Halloween News!

Tomorrow night is the night!  The Trick or Treat Festival is tomorrow night here at Legacy!  Children can trick or treat around the school and collect candy from the teachers dressed in costume.  There will also be other fun activities.  This is a terrific event!  I hope to see everyone there!

Costumes are not allowed on Halloween.  Children can show their costumes to friends at the Festival tomorrow night.  Our Halloween party will be on Monday, October 31 from 2:50-3:30.  We will be decorating cookies.  I need round sugar cookies, orange frosting, candy corn, and M&Ms.  If you are willing to bring any of these items in for us, please let me know.

We will be starting a STEM unit.  We need toilet paper and paper towel rolls for these activities.  If you have empty rolls, please send them in.

Wednesday, November 2 is a late start day.  School will start at 11:30 and dismiss at 3:40.

Crazy Week

It was kind of a crazy week with no school on Monday and staying at school all day on Friday, but we made it!

This morning we did centers.  We finished a math test at once, made a Happy Birthday book for a student at the second, worked in our math journals at the third and worked on Starfall on the iPads at the last center.  After recess we did our fine motor centers which included plastic chains, nuts and bolts, letter beads, tweezer couting, and stacking small cubes.

At our math center and after lunch, I introduced addition.  We talked about how addition is combining numbers like 2+3=5.  This seemed to be a concept that they understood quickly.

We talked about the 4 seasons and wrote about Fall.  After going to the computer lab for a while, we turned to the classroom and did math centers where we worked on pattern block puzzles and sorting.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week.  To celebrate, everyone is asked to wear red on Monday, wear jeans on Wednesday, and either wear black or be a superhero on Friday.

Our specials for next week are Art on Monday and PE on Wednesday.

Remember to sign up for The Trick-orTreat Festival.  A flier went home about that today.  I also sent a book order home.  You a not obligated to purchase anything, but it is a great opportunity to purchase books for low prices.  Our classroom can also earn books from book orders.

We are back to a normal schedule next week.  Have a great weekend!

Important dates to remember

No School
We will not be at school on Friday, October 14 or Monday, October 17.  These are conference compensation days.  I look forward to seeing the children in one week!  Enjoy the time off!

We will have school ALL DAY on Friday, October 21.  This compensates for the time we missed on October 17.

Legacy Halloween Trick or Treat Festival
On Thursday, October 27 from 6:00-7:30, Legacy will hold their annual Trick or Treat Festival.  The staff dresses up in costume while trick-or-treaters go around the building collecting treats.  In addition to trick-or-treating, there are crafts and other fun activities.  The cost is $7.50 per child if you pre-register, or $10.00 at the door.  I highly recommend this event!  I'll be there handing out treats and hope to see everyone there!

Halloween Party
We will have a small Halloween Party on Monday, October 31 from 2:50-3:30.  I would like to have the kids decorate round sugar cookies like Jack-o-lanterns.  We may also have a small craft.  If you would be interested in supplying the cookies or frosting, please let me know.

We had a terrific day today.  I have incorporated fine motor centers into our routine.  These activities are designed to help the children build the muscles they need for writing.  They enjoy the activities!
