Classroom News-March 20

We started off the short week with a busy Monday.  We worked in our calendar notebook and wrote about something we did yesterday.  Some of the kids did a great job drawing and writing about what they did.  Some kids are still working on sounding out the words they want to write.  We will have many more opportunities to work on this in class.  We worked at centers and counted tally marks (counting by 5s), built sentences, and played Go Fish with cards that had spring words on them.  After recess, we practiced writing sight words on the whiteboards.  After recess, we went through our phonics cards.  I'm really impressed with how well the children are doing with the letter blends!  We read a book about how things change in the spring season and a story about a cute baby bear that can't wait for spring!  We wrote about how we see spring outside.  We worked on addition problems in math.  After P.E., we looked at books about different cultures.  The children had lots of questions about the pictures they saw.

On Wednesday, we will go to Art for our specials class.

Remember that Wednesday is our Multicultural feast.  Every child is encouraged to bring a dish that reflects their heritage.  Please bring enough for at least 23 students to sample.  Parents are welcome to join us.

We will not have school from Friday, March 24 through Sunday, April 2.  We will return to school on Monday, April 3.  Enjoy Spring Break!

On Wednesday, April 5, we will put eggs in our classroom incubator.  They will be in there for 21 days.  This is an exciting time!

Expert Presentations will start on April 12.  I am really eager to see this year's presentations!  I will not send much in the way of homework home during this time because I want children to spend their energy working on these presentations.  Keep reading, keep playing the games, keep working on Lexia/Core 5 and MyOn, but there will not be much in the way of additional homework.

We will have a field trip onWednesday, April 26.  We will be going to Anderson Farm and the cost of the trip is $7.  I will send a permission slip and request for funds home after Spring Break.

Check the blog frequently.  There is a lot going on.
